HEWETT ART STUDIO

Tucked into a sloped forested site, this art studio’s front façade mirrors the Arts and Crafts home it faces, while its opposite end has large sliding glass doors opening up to a patio amidst tall trees. Clerestory windows provide balanced daylight throughout the studio. A clean zone for painting and writing at the front is separated from a dust zone for woodworking and pottery by a pair of large sliding wood doors. These doors, along with the entry door, were custom made from maple trees removed for the structure. Douglas fir windows and birch plywood ceiling panels lend additional warmth to the simple industrial interior palette.
